Red Fluid in Right Wheel Well

Have a 2007 Forester (just turned 4500 miles) and noticed a pretty significant liquid spotting on the right front door yesterday. Numerous spots. Immediately I thought it may have been brake fluid so I took the right front wheel off and the inside of the wheelwell is wet with RED liquid (there were 2 or 3 drops hanging from the top of the wheel well and it was definitely RED in color). That ruled out brake fluid, anti-freeze, and oil. I thought it may be ATF but upon checking the AT dip-stick it looks like the ATF is clear in color. Maybe hydraulic from the right front shock/strut? Don't know. What say you'all? I'll bring it to my Subaru Dealer Saturday (unfortunately 60 miles away). Thanks.

Are you sure you checked the AT, and not the front diff? It's easy to confuse them.

There are two possible sources of ATF, apart from the possibility you've driven though some red liquid: the AT itself, and the power steering. It's hard to imagine how it could get from either of these onto the door though.

Kinda smells like ATF but when I checked the AT fluid level (which was OK) I thought for sure the fluid was clear and the Power Steering Fluid (although I cannot verify its color) is OK at the MAX COLD level as it should be. I just washed the car and we'll see if the spotting returns but I'm leaning towards possibly having run through a large puddle of ATF at an intersection and it may have coated the tread on the right front tire then slung it around the inside of the wheel well and down the passenger side. Mystery continues at least for a day longer or until I can assess the wash results.
