ok guys, here's the deal. i got a head unit for my 2000 forester and while installing it i was told to disconnect the negative battery terminal. After doing that and putting it back on when i was done i notice my flasher's were on even though the button still had it as they were off. So, i called the dealership and they said that a technician will have to reset it? i need the car for tom and cant really drive it as the flashers stay on even the the motor isnt cranking. thanks alot.

So when you hit the hazard button, it just keeps flashing and makes a ticking sound? How can it go off again if it's already flashing?

I'd take the trim off and make sure the harness is in properly. But I've never had this problem.

I've added a few words to the title of this thread in hopes that it might attract more attention. I have this recollection that Peaty wrote something about this a while ago, but so far I haven't been able to find anything. I'll keep looking.

Worse comes to worse you could track down the flasher unit and pull it out till you can get to the bottom of the problem.

Meanwhile, if you have room in your soul for a bit of levity, you might check out this thread.

Got it!

It involves the alarm system. The answer is way down on this page. I've copied the relevant info below.

Battery failed and lights flashing?
Parking lights will flash when the vehicle's battery is disconnected and reconnected.
To stop lights from flashing, either:
Press remote transmitter “UNLOCK” button once OR turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position and press programming button for one second (see below).
The vehicle interior (courtesy) light and door open warning light (DOOR AJAR indicator) will then illuminate for 60 seconds when the ignition is turned off, or until the doors are locked with the remote transmitter. Yes, the dashboard instrument panel lights will flash when the parking lights flash.

I was going to say the same. First time I had to disconnect the battery I freaked and texted the crap out of a subie crazed buddy of mine. He laughed and left me hanging to figure it out.

I believe there's actually a sticker stating something about it under the hood, above the driver side headlight.

BUT if this isn't helping, double check other connections behind the radio. A friend and I accidentally unplugged something else installing a radio in his Toyota years back.

99 L with Flashers constantly flashing

Hi all,

While removing my radio to replace bad connector for antennae, the flashers came on and won't quit. I've read your helpful posts, but no luck. Here is what I've tried:

1) key in ignition, depress the little black button, turn key to "on", hold for at least 20 seconds.

2) disconnect battery negative, key in ignition, turn to "on", reconnect neg terminal.

so far ... nada.

Pulling the radio might have pulled on the wire harness slightly, but it is still a mystery how this happened ...

Any ideas welcome!!

Chris
